One of the great things about my dad's building (where I make jewelry) is that tenants leave things on the radiator by the front door. Not junk, but things they think others might want- books, videos, etc. The other day, I found a stack of plaques piled up and thought I could make a cool new jewelry display! I'm going to strip them and sand them down a bit... but then what? I can't decide. Any ideas?
Ooo, those will be great! I'd paint them white, but then I'd paint everything white if I could. It just makes a great backdrop!
ReplyDeleteNot sure about white. I'd leave them a natural wood finish and mount a black velvet pad and use them either hanging or flat on a table.
ReplyDeleteI have another idea for the shield shaped plaque, but don't know quite how to describe it--but you sure have my creative mind reeling...

You could decoupage a beautiful paper and varnish it to get a great background for your jewelry... I love your Betsy Rock Ring by the way :)

lucky you for your finds! So many things you could do with those plaques. How about decoupaged placemats for a start?
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh, that is sooooo neat.
ReplyDeletethey would be awesome for jewelry display! affix a slanted backing to them and they're all set to go!
Amanda Nicole: I seriously thought about white, but I decided I'd only be happy with that if EVERYTHING in my display was white... I'm not ready for that.
ReplyDeleteCoco: I love love love your taxidermy idea. I found some hands on amazon.com and I'm not sure if I'd go with the wooden ones or the real looking beauty school ones. I'm gonna wait a bit. Also, I don't know where to get an ear. Is mounting a human head too creepy? I don't want to scare people.
Susy: Thanks :)
